Lance Sijan

The Medal of Honor

Lance Sijan graduated from the Academy with the class of 1965. After pilot training he flew F-4s and was assigned to Danang Air Base, South Vietnam. His plane went down on November 9, 1967, and he was captured by the North Vietnamese. After beatings and torture, he died on January 22, 1968. He was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously on March 4, 1976.

The Friends were instrumental in acquiring a collection of Sijan photos, memorials, and prisoner-of-war material for the Academy and the McDermott Library.
